It is only just August, but I have spotted the first fungi, and it was a boletus.
This specimen has been eaten quite a lot by the snails, slugs or mice, and was not worth collecting. However it bodes well for the Autumn, because if there is one then there should be more. This one was no doubt sparked into life by the heavy rains last week. This is not the famous cep or penny bun which is Boletus edulis, but it is the next best which is Boletus badius. These can easily be identified as they have the typical boletus sponge like material underneath, not gills like most fungi, and this is yellow but will stain blue when it is touched or bruised.
I also found one earth ball which had been chewed by something, however as they are not edible it was welcome to it.

Yes a good idea, similarly I have been collecting bluebell seeds from the small patches of bluebells which do exist in our wood and then scattering them in other locations dotted about the wood, so that they will spread more rapidly.
