Woodland wildflowers of the Wye valley and Monmouthshire.

The flowers are arranged roughly in order in which they come into bloom, along with their common names. All photos were taken by me mostly in the local Wye valley, Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire area. A few were taken further away  in Norfolk or the Poitou-Charentes region of France.

For more detailed information about a particular species, and for more photos you can click  the name. (If it is highlighted) Also click on the flower photo for a better look.

Please note that Ninewells wood a part of which belongs to us, is quite high and exposed so most flowers appear somewhat later than normal.

Finally can I recommend to you the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland which has masses of info, but particularly useful are their distribution maps. You just type in the name of a wildflower, common or scientific name and up comes a map of the UK which you can zoom into and see your area in great detail.
