Two adult foxes have been visiting the wood for the past couple of months, mostly it has been the vixen but sometimes the dog fox also comes along. I can recognise them quite easily by their markings, the dog is a right ‘dog’ with a big scar round one eye and very rough fur and several bald patches. The vixen (shown below) is quite pretty but some fur is a bit greasy looking and she has a small nick in one ear.
A couple of days ago foxes came along and one was the vixen but there was a new one, the fur on this one looks quite fresh and fluffy all over and it does not have a nick in its ear. This fox was approximately the same size as the vixen and was there in the same time period as the vixen, not actually at the exact same time but a few minutes apart.
So is this one of the cubs that has now reached almost full size and so my hopes of seeing Mum with two or three little ones has been thwarted for another year?
