Today (27th December 2018) I took my two grand daughters, Lottie and Freya over to our wood and they each planted a tree.

Lottie planted an Oak… a well traveled Oak because she found two acorns in the autumn of 2016 and she kept them in her pocket and they traveled to Mozambique with her, then they went to Australia for the Christmas of 2016 then back to Mozambique and from there to Khartoum in Sudan and then back to GB where we planted them in Spring of 2017. They grew and we have two small Oaks in pots and now one has been planted in Ninewells wood.

Lottie selected where to plant it with some guidance, I dug a hole, and we both knocked in a bamboo cane.

She then planted the Oak and we carefully placed a plastic tube over it, I replaced the soil.

We wrote ‘Lottie 27.12.18’ on a stone with tipex and placed it next to the tree job done.

Freya had a less traveled specimen, it was a Hazel which had sprung up in my garden, no doubt with help from the numerous Grey squirrels that are always around.

Again a spot was selected, this time Freya did some of the digging and we both knocked in the cane.

Lottie passed Freya the Hazel and it was carefully planted, tube placed over it for protection and a stone duly tipexed with name and date.

What a great thing to do…. the next generation of trees planted by the next generation of the family.
