Last week it was warm, even hot and this has brought several trees into leaf, particularly the Rowan, Willow  and Hawthorn but also Silver Birch. I know that the Hawthorn has been in leaf for several weeks in most parts of the country but bear in mind Ninewells wood is quite high up and also exposed, you can see right across to the Bristol channel and  the Severn Bridge. On a clear day New York is in the distance, well actually its in the distance every day.

Snow this morning in Clearwell so that inevitably means snow up in Ninewells wood. I took a little drive up there and braved the cold and the sleet which then became rain and got these photos.

These two are of the area where my son regularly camps along with our Grandson, he is due to visit soon. I hope it is better weather, lighting the camp fire would be quite a challenge.

And just behind the campsite there is this impressive row of Oaks, and a stone wall that I am told was constructed by the Napoleonic prisoners of war.

I quite like the contrast between last years Beech leaves and the snow.

….

I saw very few animal tracks but the snow had only been lying for a few hours, and it was melting fast, I expect and hope it will all be gone by tomorrow.
