I spent a very pleasant afternoon in the wood yesterday (12/04/2019) I did some work thinning out Silver Birch, but mostly I pottered about with my camera and took shots of what ever was presenting itself.
There were a few birds making their presence felt notably Chiffchaffs but I also heard one Willow Warbler. Both of these photos are Chiffchaffs
There was a Wren always very noisy and it seemed to be particularly interested in one old stump. I wonder if that is a potential nest site.
Quite a few insects were about, I saw several butterflies including this Peacock.
I have placed some old roofing felt near a pile of old logs in the hope of attracting reptiles. I often see Common Lizards and my son has seen a Slow worm, but it would be nice if Adders , showed up. They are supposed to be resident on near bye Cleddon bog so that is not too far away as the snake slithers. The felt was quite popular with insects, not only the Peacock but also this Green Tiger Beetle.
I also took some macro shots of buds and moss, as I said anything that caught my eye.
