Well I have been moving my feeding areas around a bit which is not perhaps the ideal way to attract the birds and mammals Now instead of having various locations I have brought everything together in more or less the same region which means I can see all from one spot. Previously it was like I was at a tennis match looking back and forth from one area to another.
I also had set up a salt lick somewhere else to try and attract Deer, So now I have also moved this to the same area. The pond/drinking area is still a bit in the wrong place but not too far away and that is where it will stay.
I am getting a reasonable range of species now, three species of Deer, Roe, Fallow and Muntjac, Also Foxes are regularly visiting and recently a large Male Wild Boar. I also get the dreaded Grey Squirrel, and Rabbits are about, I saw two this morning, I have two boxes for Dormice, and both have been filled with leaves and materials but what did this I do not know. I have only checked them out once in the 18months that they have been in place not wishing to disturb any occupants.
In terms of birds my main hope was to encourage Buzzards and Red Kites, but that has not been so successful. Buzzards are about and occasionally swoop in but the Red Kites that were about last year have not been seen very often recently. What I do have is a pair of Carrion Crows which may be the reason other large birds avoid the area as the Crows are quite aggressive and guard their territory. Even the fox which visited several times this morning was keeping an eye open for the Crows.
The bird feeders when they are not being demolished by the squirrels are attracting a good range of birds particularly Tits and Woodpeckers, There are a pair of Linnets about quite regularly and the Peacock from next door has learnt that he may get some pea nuts thrown is way if my truck is there.

I like the idea of a dormouse box. Good luck. Amelia
