I was up at our wood today and took a few photos, there were lots of little fungi, which I find difficult to identify but will have a crack at them latter. There was also a large slug, and I think I know which sort and finally this woodpecker who obliged by spending about 10 minutes on this dead Corsican Pine.

He is a Great Spotted woodpecker, quite easy to identify and he is a he because of the red on his head, Lady woodpeckers do not have this.

I took loads of photos with my 100 to 400mm zoom and they have been cropped. Then because he was so obliging I fitted a 2X  tele converter. It is a canon mk 2 version so not rubbish. This is a  photo taken with that set up, it has also been cropped so that the bird is about the same size as in the photos above.

This photo and all the ones taken with the tele converter were not as good or clear as the ones taken without it….. So why bother?
